Variations

Add Cilantro:
Incorporate chopped fresh cilantro for a classic flavor boost. Cilantro adds a fresh, herbal note that complements the other ingredients beautifully.

Mango Pico de Gallo:
Add diced mango for a sweet and tropical twist. The sweetness of the mango balances the acidity of the tomatoes and lime.

Pineapple Pico de Gallo:
Substitute diced pineapple for a refreshing and fruity variation. This works well for summer barbecues and adds a unique flavor profile.

Corn Pico de Gallo:
Mix in some fresh or grilled corn for added sweetness and texture. This variation is especially delicious in the summer when corn is in season.

Avocado Pico de Gallo:
Add diced avocado for creaminess. This variation is perfect for those who enjoy a richer texture in their salsa.

Spicy Pico de Gallo:
Use a spicier variety of hot pepper, such as jalapeño or serrano, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat.

    Storage

    Refrigeration:
Store any leftover pico de gallo in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for about 2-3 days. The flavors will continue to meld, but the vegetables may become softer over time.

    Freezing:
While it’s not recommended to freeze pico de gallo due to the texture of the vegetables, you can freeze the individual ingredients (like chopped tomatoes or peppers) for later use in cooked dishes.

    Prevent Browning:
If you add avocado to your pico de gallo, it may brown quickly. To minimize this, store the pico de gallo in an airtight container and press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to limit air exposure.
