Southern Style Cheeseburger Pie

Southern Style Cheeseburger Pie

This dish is a hearty and simple comfort food, combining the classic flavors of a cheeseburger in an easy-to-slice pie form. It’s perfect for a family dinner.

Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, diced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/2 cup flour
2 large eggs

1 tsp mustard (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

1 pre-made pie crust

Instructions:
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brown the ground beef with the diced onion in a skillet over medium heat.

Season with salt and pepper, then drain all the excess fat to prevent a soggy crust.

Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish. Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly inside the crust.

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the beef.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, mayonnaise, flour, eggs, and optional mustard until the batter is smooth.

Pour this mixture over the cheese and beef layer.

Bake the pie for 35 to 40 minutes. It is done when the top is golden brown and set.

Let the pie rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking before slicing it. This allows the filling to set for cleaner slices.

Tips for success:
Draining the cooked beef thoroughly is the most important step.

For a crispier crust, you can pre-bake it for 5-7 minutes before adding the filling. Using room-temperature eggs will help the batter mix together more smoothly.

Optional additions:
You can add depth with garlic powder or smoked paprika.

For a tangy or spicy kick, mix in some diced pickles or jalapeños with the beef. For a different flavor, add a tablespoon of ketchup or BBQ sauce to the beef.

For a bacon cheeseburger version, mix in half a cup of cooked bacon bits.

Storage

Allow the pie to cool completely to room temperature.

Cover the pie dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer individual slices to an airtight container. It can be refrigerated for **up to 3 days**.

For longer storage, you can freeze the pie. Wrap the entire pie or individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil.

Freeze for **up to 2 months**. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Reheating

**Oven/Toaster Oven (Recommended):** Reheat at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.

This method keeps the crust crisp. If reheating from frozen, add extra time and cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.

Microwave: Quick but can make the crust soft. Heat individual slices on a microwave-safe plate in 30-second intervals until hot.

Serving

Let the baked pie rest for **5-10 minutes** before slicing. This allows the filling to set for cleaner portions.

Serve warm*, garnished with classic burger toppings if desired:

* A dollop of ketchup, mustard, or special sauce

* A side of crisp pickle spears or a simple green salad

* A spoonful of diced fresh tomatoes, onions, or relish

It pairs perfectly with simple sides like **French fries, roasted potatoes, or a light coleslaw.
