Cheese Variety: Experiment with different types of cheese such as mozzarella, pepper jack, or gouda for a unique flavor profile. You can also mix cheeses for added depth.
Toppings: Customize your hot dogs with various toppings. Try adding sautéed onions, jalapeños, diced tomatoes, or avocado for extra flavor and texture.
Spicy Version: Add a slice of jalapeño or a drizzle of hot sauce inside the bun for a spicy kick. You can also use spicy mustard or chipotle mayo as a condiment.
Bacon-Wrapped: For a heartier option, wrap the hot dogs in bacon before air frying. This adds a delicious crunch and smoky flavor.
Veggie Dogs: Substitute traditional hot dogs with plant-based or veggie dogs for a healthier or vegetarian option.
Herbed Butter: Mix fresh herbs (like parsley, chives, or basil) into the softened butter before spreading it on the buns for an aromatic twist
Stuffed Buns: Before adding the hot dog, stuff the bun with additional ingredients like sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or roasted red peppers for a more filling meal.
Storage
Refrigeration: If you have leftovers, store the grilled cheese hot dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be kept for up to 2 days.
Reheating: To reheat, place the hot dogs back in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes until heated through. This will help maintain the crispiness of the bun and the melted cheese.
Freezing: While it’s best to enjoy them fresh, you can freeze the assembled hot dogs (without toppings) for up to 1 month.
Wrap each hot dog tightly in plastic wrap and then place them in a freezer-safe bag. When ready to eat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the air fryer.
